Robert C Parker
When I was about 10 years old, my mother arranged for me to take piano lessons. It was fine for a while but it did cut into my sporting life. I remember “forgetting” to go to one of my lessons because my sporting activities were more important at the time and being made to front up to the piano teacher
half an hour late for the lesson to apologise for my actions.
I never did that again and, I’ve been grateful to my mother ever since, for the lessons (both in life and music).
After about 4 years of trying to be interested in classical music, I stopped going to lessons. It was then that music started to take on a different guise as I found interest in experimenting with chord structures and “sounds”. It was fun to “make up” pieces of music……and I’ve doing so ever since.
Composing really didn’t get to any higher status that “hobby” though, after all “who was I and what was I going to do with my music anyway?”
I did however write a few commercials and write and record the soundtracks for a few small budget films and documentaries.
About 5 years ago, I was encouraged to write and record a CD. I found that quite a project but the end result was very fulfilling. I’ve had some pleasing comments on “We can Dream Forever”.
Having said that, the style of that album even surprised me because it was basically orchestral when my background as a musician has been in cover “pop” type bands.
My new album is more in keeping with how I see myself and the types of musical styles that I find appealing. It’s also another step on my “journey”.
